Typically, Reiki is practiced on a massage table. Sometimes it may be practiced in a chair, on the floor or standing. People stay fully clothed and lie on their backs on the table with a blanket and pillows for optimal comfort and soft music plays. In a standard session Reiki energy flows from the practitioners hands into the client. The practitioner places his or her hands on or near the clients body in a series of hand positions, moving as the energy guides them. These include positions around the head and shoulders, the stomach, arms, legs and feet. Other, more specific positions may be used based on the clients needs. An entire session usually lasts between 45 and 60 minutes.

Individual experiences vary somewhat from person to person. Depending on receptivity and experience with meditation and other factors. However, feelings of deep relaxation are usually felt by all. In addition to relaxation, many feel a sense of wonder or magnificence surrounding and flowing through them. Peace is often described; perhaps a connection with Holy. Reiki is not part of any religion but many people feel connected to their personal spiritual alignings. Reiki energy encourages one to let go of stress, tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings and a state of peace and well-being is experienced. Some people drift off to sleep. Some have shared a feeling of floating outside their bodies or have visions and other mystical experiences. At the end of the session, one feels refreshed with a more positive, self loving balanced outlook.

After a session many people feel relaxed, peaceful and reenergized. The cells in our bodies are imprinted with lifetimes of experiences. Many times we have held on to negative, self sabotaging and karmic experiences that we may not even know we were still carrying until after we’ve experienced the loving touch of Reiki. We often sit content in our darkness until we experience the light. The light shines brighter and brighter the more we experience it, finally vanquishing all of the darkness. As this process takes its course we get to experience the soothing, life giving side of Reiki. Reiki takes some time to heal as it works in layers. Every time we heal and release a layer of darkness from our auras it’s possible to experience side effects. Our body flushes out the toxic negative experiences that have been storing away in our cells. They’re filtered by our liver and kidneys and removed from our system. Then, we get to enjoy our light, healthy, happy body and mind and experience a greater quality of life.

If a healing reaction happens, it is a good idea to drink more water, eat light nutritious meals and get more rest. Ultimately, the healing process relies on the receiver. The forgiving of past hurts and letting go of repressed negativity, either at a conscious or unconscious level is necessary. Reiki healing sessions are always working automatically towards resolving these deeper problems. As the healing continues over the next week you can be on the look out for more synchronicity and soul aligning.
